Landform is excited to provide Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, exterior lighting services, and Development Management Services to help create The Ascent at Top of the Hill, an $80M mixed-use development in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

The Ascent at Top of the Hill is the largest mixed-use residential project created in Cleveland Heights. The 261 luxury-market apartment homes and 11,000 square feet of commercial retail space, and a 500-space parking garage will feature some of the best amenities offered in the greater Cleveland metropolitan area.

Located at a four-acre parcel at the junction of Cedar Road and Euclid Heights Boulevard, The Accent at Top of the Hill comprises studios, one and two-bedroom apartment homes and select premium three-bedroom apartment penthouses.

The Ascent is stitching together its community’s iconic, modern, and historical heritage. Residents can enjoy various amenities, including a rooftop pool, lounge, two grills and a firepit when completed.

A significant component was a public park we incorporated into the project. Immediately connected to this park is outdoor seating to a restaurant. In addition, direct access to the parking ramp goes through the park.

Key challenges we have overcome were incorporating a new public street that will be named and maintained by the city. We wanted to make this street feel like it’s more part of a neighborhood, than your typical residential or commercial street.  We added changes to the street paving, materials and patterns to help drivers pay attention and instinctively slow down to create a more “pedestrian-friendly” neighborhood.

Like the Wing’s Financial Credit Union project we recently completed in Rochester, Minnesota, Landform designed a cutting-edge exterior lighting plan to make it safer for pedestrians.

An existing red-brick building remained in the middle of the project, and we gleaned the elements and aesthetic values into the new project.

Below are three short 360° videos we stitched together so you can enjoy getting a feel for the innovative elements we’re creating for this mixed-use development.

New Street
This new street will include a mix of geometrically spaced trees and complex lighting to create a slower cadence, providing a safer pedestrian environment and ensuring ecological stability.  The new street we’ve developed will also feature cutting-edge materials and a stamped crosswalk with colored pavement.  This infuses a subliminal mindset for drivers to slow down and a safer neighborhood for the tenants and guests.

Retail Front
We incorporated a smart blend of plants, flowers and other blooms to produce a patio feel for the shops. This attention to detail will also allow the tenants to have a sense of home when they’re in the shops looking out and viewing the shops from outside.

Courtyard
Landform has set out to design a luscious, private courtyard that will feel like a garden Oasis for its tenants in the city.  There will be a pergola in the center of the courtyard that will feature an outdoor bbq grill and kitchen, a soft, delicately curved collonade walkway throughout, and a variety of flowering perennials, trees, and shrubs to construct privacy.  Each ground-level home will also feature mixed plants to separate it from the courtyard, further delivering a sense of privacy for the tenants.
