Our very own Planner, Nicholas, has some great tips for navigating your success through college.“A primary thing that helped me succeed when I attended the University of Calgary as I worked towards my degree was going to a career counsellor office. They were able to help guide me with my degree and with what I wanted to do with my career.
Another thing you can do is find a mentor in the industry you want to join. For example, I shadowed my mentor when they worked and helped motivate me and stay focused as I embarked on my path to becoming an Urban Planner.
There are also many YouTube videos from professional planners who are also vloggers who will do videos about their job and concepts they want to participate in.
You can also read books. That’s a simple tip, but it’s just as effective today as it has always been.
Personal connections are excellent. Whether through family, school or an internship – they’re essential to helping you find other opportunities.”
